ASIC Milestones
2013-2015
The improvements journey started when USAID established the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Public-Private Taskforce for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture.
The task force group traveled to various parts of the Southeast Asian region to explore different farms and conduct field testing to assess the issues surrounding sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
2016 - 2019
The ASIC idea started - a platform designed to develop improvement solutions for fisheries and aquaculture operations in Asia.
(Oct 2016) ASIC partners with Seafood Watch to boost sustainability initiatives in Asia through the development and implementation of Southeast Asia Shrimp Aquaculture Improvement Protocol (SEASAIP) standards
ASIC signs a partnership contract with the OXFAM GRAISEA to improve sustainability and social and labor standards in SEA countries.
(Jul 2018) The first Asian Seafood Improvement Collaborative verified shrimp enters US markets.
ASIC finalizes the ASIC Shrimp Standards
2021
(Jan 2021) ASIC announces partnership with NSF International to promote sustainability compliance through tech verification tools.
(Mar 2021) ASIC participates in Seafood Expo North America Reconnect 2021
(Aug 2021) ASIC becomes an Affiliated Partner of the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative Seafood MAP project.
(Nov 2021) ASIC releases a 10-minute short film to celebrate stories of small-scale producers in the seafood industry.
2022
(Mar 2022) ASIC partners with Chef Ambassador Danielle Leoni to connect with the culinary community in the Netherlands.
(June 2022) ASIC completed the standard and piloted the ASIC Social Gender Standard Leader.
(Apr-June 2022) In collaboration with ASIC Chef Ambassador, ASIC launches a series of culinary events in Southern, Western, and Central Netherlands to introduce the ASIC verified products in the Dutch culinary industry.
(July - September 2022) Following a successful lineup of culinary events, ASIC, in collaboration with Chef Danielle Leoni with ten restaurant partners, hosted ASIC Sustainable Shrimp Feast, featuring special shrimp dishes for a week using ASIC verified sustainable shrimp products.
(Sep 2022) ASIC partners with Chef Ambassador Tu David Phu to reach a wider audience via digital platforms in promoting ASIC verified products through its improvement program and the Asian storied seafood with the rest of the world.
