Our Initiatives

ASIC recognizes that each producer has a unique need to keep up with the industry's demands and challenges. Through the ASIC improvement tools & programs, we have the opportunity to support stakeholders in finding the right solution to achieve their sustainability goals in the seafood space.

Environmental Standard

A comprehensive producer-level standard that provides technical guidance on environmentally sustainable aquaculture practices.

The standard offers producers of all scales an enhanced framework that addresses environmental risks, improves farming productivity, and monitors their sustainability performance, providing credible assurance for a sustainable product offering in the market.

Social & Gender Standard

A gender mainstreamed standard aligns with the Environmental Farming Standard and provides producers with guidance on the minimum criteria required for both Compliant and Leader level farming operations.

The ASIC Social and Gender Standard covers eight holistic fundamentals, addressing the industry's social challenges to support improving livelihoods for smallholder producers, promote human rights in the seafood supply chain, and foster access to equal opportunities and gender equality.

• Both standards support producers in their quest to incorporate more sustainable practices on their farms and improve their livelihoods.

Our Approach

ASIC was founded on three key principles that are critical for fostering improvement in fisheries and aquaculture operations in Asia:

Incentivize Improvement

Develop strategies and tools with the direct engagement of the producers via an ISEAL-compliant, consensus-based approach to define and incentivize improvement.

Design inclusive tools

Design tools that allow multiple compliance points for engagement with producers at all levels of performance

Co-create realistic sustainable solutions

Build tools that reflect the realities facing producers while seeking to align production with global sustainability standards where possible

ASIC engages all Asian seafood supply chain stakeholders to co-create solutions and advance sustainability initiatives that support ocean health, livelihood improvements, and global food security.
